IN VITRO

ON THE POLITICAL SITUATION, August 1990.

When birth precedes gestation,

Malformation must occur.

In nature abhors a vacuum,

It detests unnatural disorder.

We crescent-curled embryos,

First thought, then words, then flesh,

Were conceived in political vitro,

And implanted from a wish.

We have grown middle-aged,

Waiting to be born.

And for umbilical sustenance,

From within we’ve gnawed the womb.

Enlarging in uterine darkness,

Blind instincts have undergone change.

Love has curved into sickle hate,

Patriotism for matricide exchanged.
