My world is round again.
My stomach balloons,
But gone the pain
That gnawed within.
I have broken the three-meal chain.
I can feel my hunger, thirst,
My cravings for coffee wane.
I have curbed a disobedient
Appetite, forcing it to rein
In ‘til I recover my lost piety.
Fasting is enjoined on us to re-train
Our bodies, thoughts, our minds.
We are exhorted to abstain
from everything impure.
If only fasting, though, could remain
A one-off thing, not this testing
Thirty-day refrain.
