THE BUSINESS OF BUSINESS SCHOOLS
ON THE PROLIFERATION OF BUSINESS SCHOOLS

If the bread sandwich and universities were the creation of the Old World, hamburgers and business school are the invention of the New World, for only an innovative country like America could have developed the idea of a fast composite meal to assuage physical hunger or of a composite business manger to satisfy a corporate appetite.
Management is considered to be a modern science and yet one has only to contemplate the great pyramids of Giza or the vast ruins of the ancient Mexican city of Teotihuacán, or the orderly layout of Mohenjodaro in Sindh to realise that they were not the result of an accident. Without a very sophisticated system of management organizing both men and resources, it would have been impossible for them to have been built. Management therefore as a skill can be said to have been practiced since civilisation began. What America has been able to achieve in the last 100 years or so is to make sound management synonymous with profitable business. [EXTRACT]
