THE ANARCHIST
A SUFI'S QUESTION

I stopped the sun with my bare hands,

Arrested the moon with a glance;

Stars I scooped into a shimmering heap

And ringed planets with my lips.

Made mountains heave with desire,

Rivers gurgle, flow upstream, uphill,

Lakes bubble and overflow,

Forests become their own funeral pyre.

Did I dream this? Or did you once

Come into my life, and alter

My metronome, disrupt my ordered universe,

Reverse the revolution of my rhythmic whirls?
