I NEVER THOUGHT ...
ON MORTALITY

I never thought I’d age before my time,

or realize that growing old’s a crime

punishable by death.

I never thought my spring would fade,

my summer cool, my autumn made

into my winter’s wreath.

I never thought God could outlive me.

Yet, he hungers, open-mouthed to consume

My last, my final breath.

I never thought of Infinity as some Black Hole

Into which God pours every human’s soul.

It has to be the darkness that only eye-less sight

can see, pre-Creation’s first Day-less Night.
