IF ONLY GOD
ON PAIN

If only God could see.
He would weep at wrongs done in his name.
He'd wring His hands, His head hang in shame,
Destroy the crucible marked Eden,
So that He could never repeat the mistake
Of creating mankind unkind again.

If only God would act, react.
He would rescue victims from the rack
Of pain, of suffering. He would spread
Consoling arms, open palms

that bore the mark of nails.

Nature is an animal's natural foe.
Man for survival fights his own.
Man's heaven may be God-made;
his hells are made by others.

If only God had first been Man,
Ascended, not descended.
He would have known what wrongs
To right, not wait until Earth ended.
