DYING FREE
ON BEING PREPARED

I have packed my books, mothballed memories,

Pressed rose petals within the pages of my life.

I put ambition to sleep, my soul at ease,

Conceded defeat in Life’s one-sided strife.

I have promised myself not to dissipate

My energies reacting to others. Instead,

I have vowed to make love my mantra, not hate,

Let my heart not share dominion with my head.

However many hours I have left to me,

Let me spend them beneficially,

By breaking bonds, setting myself free

Of myself, and remembering only Thee.
