I HAVE LOST YOU

I have lost you,
lost you to the chimes of time,
to the sandy hourglass

whose rasping grains
drain mortality.
I have lost you to your future,
and lost, return to my past.

Why did I think love would last?

Dry drought returns,
That encroaching desert
I thought I had travelled beyond.
