I AM INCARCERATED

I am incarcerated
by government decree
within a prison
that belongs to me.
I have been ordered
to live in self-captivity.

I wear a mask,
which blurs my identity.
I have enough to eat,
read, maintain mobility
by walking in my garden.
Socially distant, I forfeit liberty
to prevent the spread of infection,
even from you to me.

Why? How could this second life
you gave, my first grave be?
